PUBG Mobile ban in India permanent for now: Report

PUBG Mobile could remain permanently banned in India because the government of India isn’t revoking the ban on any of the 119 apps restricted by it on September 2. As per the newest report, there isn’t any discussion within the govt on revoking the ban on any of the restricted apps anytime soon. PUBG Mobile, one among the foremost popular mobile games was banned by the govt over their alleged engagement in “activities” that were “prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, the safety of the state and public order."


According to a report by InsideSport citing a “ministry source”, the govt of India ,“ is in no discussion with-in the ministry officially to revoke the ban on any of the apps listed within the ban list.” PUBG Mobile severed ties with Tencent Games in India after the sport was taken down from Google Play Store and Apple App Store. As per the report, the govt has taken cognizance of the Corporation severing its ties but has said that a “mere announcement” isn’t enough to be considered for revocation of the ban in effect on PUBG Mobile.


Since its ban, there are several rumours regarding PUBG Corporation trying to find an Indian publisher for the favored battle royale title in India. However, the newest information does seem to point that it's getting to be an extended await PUBG Mobile players in India, a minimum of until PUBG Corp gets a publisher on board.


Another report from The Hindu line citing “sources within the know”, PUBG Corp. could collaborate with Jio Platforms to distribute PUBG Mobile in India. Will PUBG Mobile make a comeback in India? Or is it a permanent ban?

As the game was developed by Tencent Games, a Chinese company, India had concerns over user privacy and hence the app was removed. Lately, people have been talking about the comeback of the battle royale game but should you be excited? Here’s what you need to know.


According to a recent report citing ministry sources, the PUBG Mobile app is not coming back from the ban anytime soon. In a statement, the ministry source said “There is no discussion within the ministry officials to revoke the ban on any of the apps listed in the ban list. We will stay away from making any comment on any specific company or app.“ 


With this, we can confidently say that PUBG Mobile is not making a comeback to the Indian app stores any time soon. So, the players should start switching to Call of Duty Mobile or Free Fire. FAU:G, an Indian battle royale game is also coming soon for both Android and iOS platforms. 


In contradiction, a report by Hindu Business Line suggests that PUBG Corporation is in talks with Reliance Jio to bring back PUBG Mobile to India. The report citing an internal source, suggests that these talks are still under early stages. Also, the two companies are working out the details as to how a deal might be structured.


As of now, nothing much can be said about the game's comeback. Till then, we can only look for alternatives.



Will PUBG remain forever banned in India?

Ever since the govt took down Chinese apps, comprising the much beloved PUBG over security reasons, the multiplayer game's fans are wondering if the most important computer game in India will ever make a comeback.


The Union Ministry of Electronics and knowledge Technology (MEITY) had on September 2 banned 59 more apps including PUBG, additionally to 165 mobile applications banned on twice earlier.


The ministry during a stern notice said that the said apps were banned within the view of the "emergent nature of threats" as they were engaged in activities which were "prejudicial" to sovereignty, defence and security of the country.

But the large question is whether or not the ban on these apps, PUBG specifically, is permanent or a stop-gap arrangement?


PUBG move after ban in India


Following its ban from the Indian market, PUBG Corp, the parent company of PUBG Mobile, announced that Tencent Games would not handle its India franchise. PUBG Corporation is that the publisher and developer of the 2017 blockbuster battle royale computer game , PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS (PUBG), on multiple platforms.


This led to speculations that PUBG Mobile will soon be unbanned in India.


PUBG Corp further said in its statement that it working "hand-in-hand with the Indian government to seek out a solution" and let the sport to work within the country while being "fully compliant with Indian laws and regulations."


PUBG MOBILE is that the mobile version of PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS (PUBG), an property owned and developed by PUBG Corporation, a South Korean gaming company which is actively engaged in developing and publishing PUBG on multiple platforms, including PUBG MOBILE in select territories.


PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite are developed by the Chinese company (Tencent Games) and it is the mobile versions of the sport that are proscribed by the govt .


Meanwhile, those that have the sport installed on their devices can still play it, however, the new updates aren't available for users in India.


PUBG Corporation may be a subsidiary of Bluehole Games, the South Korean company that developed PUBG.


PUBG Mobile was initially launched to facilitate PUBG's entry into China because the sport was banned there. The game was finally released in China after Tencent Games picked up a 1.5 per cent stake in Bluehole Studio. This is the version the govt banned due to its reference to China.

PUBG looking for Indian partner


Soon after severing ties with PUBG's earlier publisher company - Tencent Games, the South Korean company is now looking to partner with an Indian firm to bring the mobile game back to the Indian market.


While there's no clarification on whether the govt would allow such an association, consistent with media reports, PUBG Corp is actively looking to traffic jam with an Indian gaming company to assuage frayed nerves of the govt and other people alike and resume operations within the country.


The company is reportedly readying a replacement contract with an Indian gaming firm to expire the rights to work PUBG within the Indian market.


Meanwhile, unlike with Tencent Games earlier, PUBG Mobile will retain publishing rights for the sport while its Indian partner will only handle the distribution part.


PUBG-Reliance Jio tie up


Reports are rife that PUBG may partner with Reliance Jio to resume operations in India. The gaming major is reportedly in talks with Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Ltd's (RIL) telecom arm to win it over as a possible publisher and distributor within the country.
